Guitar Building Week 2

This week in guitar building I sanded my head and my fret board. After I sanded my fret board I measured the 3, 5, 7, 9, 15, 17, 19, and 21 frets to line up the middle of them and puncture a small hole into each one. I also drilled holes into the base of my guitar so I can put wires through it. I used a power drill, and a sander to accomplish all of this. What I learned this week is that sometimes a more gentle approach is need to get what you need. ( example: If i punctured the fret board to hard with the spring loaded puncture pen It would have made to big of a hole in my fret board.

Guitar Building Week 1

During the First week of my guitar building class I have started and finished designing my head. I have chosen to go with a single headed battle ax as the design of my head. I have figured out the cutting style that I need use in able to accomplish this. I have cut out the shape of my head with a band saw. As well as for next week i will begin to sand it.

Hello!

Hello my name is Sam Chaplin I am a high school student attending a guitar building class. Each week I will post an update on the progress of my guitar and what I learned that week. My goal is to make an electric guitar that looks like a battle axe.

A little bit about my self. I am 17 years old, Work at Dunkin Donuts, and play Games on my free time. I play basically any type of games from Magic the Gathering to Super Smash brothers. I am kinda a nerd but that’s not going to be relative to this blog so I’ll talk about something else. I have always been into wood working but never really got the chance as a kid to do it. So I am hoping that this class is the first step to making wood working a hobby for me. Once i’m done with this class i’m hoping that i’ll be able to go home and create my own stuff with the information I obtain during this 24 week period.
