Hello!

Hello my name is Sam Chaplin I am a high school student attending a guitar building class. Each week I will post an update on the progress of my guitar and what I learned that week. My goal is to make an electric guitar that looks like a battle axe.

A little bit about my self. I am 17 years old, Work at Dunkin Donuts, and play Games on my free time. I play basically any type of games from Magic the Gathering to Super Smash brothers. I am kinda a nerd but that’s not going to be relative to this blog so I’ll talk about something else. I have always been into wood working but never really got the chance as a kid to do it. So I am hoping that this class is the first step to making wood working a hobby for me. Once i’m done with this class i’m hoping that i’ll be able to go home and create my own stuff with the information I obtain during this 24 week period.

Guitar building Week 14

This week we learned about coils and there magnetic fields. we learned how they can change and their function in building.

Guitar building week # 14

This was was brain may week, He is a guitar player for the band queen. I learned that there are different types of electric guitars and some even have a stick popping out to change frequencies of the sound waves that is at the base of the guitar.

Guitar building #12

Sadly I could not work on my guitar this week cause the corona virus canceled school. But last week we worked on articles and watched videos about paint jobs and how they can vary. I learned how to fix the wood if it gets chipped once I’ve painted my guitar.

Guitar building week #10

Last week I worked on the electrical parts of the guitar. we worked on the volume and sound of the guitar. I learned about wiring and soldering.

This week I sanded the body of my guitar. I used 80 gret sand paper. I fined two out of 3 sides of it.

Guitar Building Week #7

This week I drilled four holes in my guitar, i then used a ban saw to cut in between the holes and i cut out the handle on my guitar. I then sanded the top half of my handle. Tools i used were a ban saw, drill press and 80 gret sand paper. I learned to always use a template.

Guitar building Week 7

This week I was polishing my frets with 1000 gret sandpaper and finished it up steel wool. I learned to always put tape down when sanding cause it will mess up the board.

This week I put in my frets with a drill press and then I sanded them with 80 gran sandpaper. I filed off the edges and i had to take some frets out as well. I learned to always triple check if my measurements are good because sometimes they aren’t and it will mess things up real hard.

Guitar building Week 5

This week all i did was finished up my sanding and I also cut my frets. The tools i used were clippers to cut the frets. I learned how cut fret wire.

Guitar Building Week 3

During this week I drilled in holes in my fret board with the drill press and put glue in to the holes in and I put in my fret dots. After words I sanded my fret board and flattened out the board. Then I glued my fret board and wrapped it around my guitar head and i let it sit for about 1 1/2 weeks. What i learned this week was what the purpose of frets are and how they label positions on the guitar.
